It's been a good couple of days for Rick Nash. Coming off an Olympic gold medal, he scored a pair of goals for his Colorado Avalanche as they downed the Detroit Red Wings 5-1 on home ice Monday night. After a two week break in the schedule for the Vancouver games, the OHL was back in action last night with this one game.

Many had hoped for a spirited game but they were left disappointed as the Avalanche were just too powerful and too good for the Red Wings on this eve. The Avs outshot the Wings 46-21 and dominated every inch of the ice.

Rick Nash had a pair of goals and Cory Murphy and Marian Hossa also enjoyed multi-point nights.

Steve Mason made 20 saves for the Avs and was named the 3rd star of the game. Rick Nash (1st) and Cory Murphy (2nd) were the other two.

18.855 people were in attendance at the unnamed arena in Denver.

Tonight's schedule promises much more action as there are no less than 12 games on the schedule. The game of the night without a doubt is the meeting between the Dallas Stars and the Los Angeles Kings of the Campbell Conference.

Fans will be left wondering what might have been in the Buffalo vs. Pittsburgh game had former GM Josh Shelton been around to boast an Olympic gold medal for his Canada. Shelton, reportedly, is now pursuing a career in politics following failures at every other avenue he has pursued.
