Sven Butenschon is a legend in the Outlaw Hockey League, and now he's building a legacy on the international scene at the 2010 Vancouver Olympics.

At 33 years of age, Sven Butenschon is showing no signs of slowing down, despite not having played a game at the OHL level since the 2005/06 playoffs with the New Jersey Devils. Sven enjoyed 3 fabulous years with the Devils in the OHL, playing 134 regular season games for the club, scoring 3 goals and adding 13 assists. Always a rock on defense, Sven was a +18 in an OHL career highlighted by the 04/05 season when he along with Zigmund Palffy led the Devils to the best regular season record in league history.

After the 05/06 season, Sven played a season for the Lowell Devils in the ZPHL, scoring 11 goals and 48 points while going +35 on the year.

After that the Devils chose not to re-sign Sven. Rumors persist to this day that Sven had a fight with GM Mike Fairhead over Rachel Uchitel. Fairhead, unable to compete with Sven in the sack, simply sent his star defenseman out of town for the sake of a tabloid slut like miss Uchitel.

Sven Butenschon then chose to sign with the Pittsburgh Penguins, arch rivals of the Devils, which angered Fairhead and his team to no end. Sven played 38 games for WBS Penguins in 07/08, scoring 4 goals and 10 points along with a +5 rating.

Since then Sven has been playing for Adler Mannheim in his native Germany but his legacy has not been forgotten. In 2006 the league named the ZPHL Championship Trophy after him and now Sven is back on the ice looking like man amongst boys at the Olympics.

With the Euro rules becoming more generous next year, might we see Sven Butenschon back in the ZPHL for the 2010/11 season? Fans of the sport certainly wants to see it.
